4 Healthy Habits We Love To To Hate

Mornings run on autopilot for most people, which is exactly why a few small habits get skipped without anyone noticing. Four of them keep coming up when we ask customers what they wish they did before 8am.

Opening the curtains before the phone

Reaching for a phone in the dark, still in bed, is the default for most of us. Opening the curtains first — even for thirty seconds, even on a grey day — changes the order of the morning without adding a single task to it. It's the easiest of the four to try and the easiest to forget again by Thursday.

Eating something before the first meeting

Skipping breakfast because there isn't time, then running on coffee until lunch, is common enough that it barely registers as a choice anymore. A handful of dates and a few almonds takes less time to eat than the coffee takes to brew, and it's something rather than nothing. Kurma Nabi keeps a small jar of Safawi by the kettle for exactly this — see our notes on choosing a premium Safawi grade if the variety is unfamiliar.

Leaving the phone in another room while getting dressed

Ten minutes without a screen, first thing, is a small habit that a lot of people say they want and almost nobody keeps past the first week. It's not about the phone being bad — it's that ten uninterrupted minutes make the rest of the morning move faster, not slower.

Packing the afternoon snack before leaving, not after arriving

Whatever gets packed the night before or the morning of, before leaving the house, gets eaten. Whatever's supposed to be sorted out "later, once I'm there" usually isn't, and the 3pm vending machine wins by default. Our guide to Madinah-grown dates and current Medjool pricing are useful starting points for stocking that kind of snack properly.

None of these four take more than a minute or two. The habit isn't the hard part — remembering to start it before the day takes over is.
