Embrace Convenience with Buying Fresh Dates Fruit Online in Malaysia

Kedai Kurma

On this site, Kurma Nabi is the name of the business. It is also a market name for Ajwa, the date from Madinah in Saudi Arabia. Every date sold in Malaysia is imported, so an online listing always points to a foreign origin, and checking that origin is part of buying well. This guide covers how to read a listing and what to put in your first message to the seller.

Start with what an Ajwa date looks like

Ajwa is small, roundish and near-black, with finely wrinkled skin, and it is soft. Two other dates from the Madinah region can appear on the same listing pages. Safawi is longer than Ajwa, dark brown to black, soft and chewy. Mabroom is long and slender, reddish-brown and semi-dry.

If a listing names more than one of these, ask which variety is actually in the pack before you pay. Online, that one question does the job that looking along a market stall does in person.

Fresh is a ripeness word, not a delivery promise

Two Arabic words come up on date listings. Rutab, also written rotab, is the soft, fresh-ripe stage. Tamr, or tamar, is the fully ripe, drier stage. When a page says "fresh dates" and gives nothing else, ask which of the two you will get.

The harvest calendar matters as well. Gulf and Middle-East dates are mostly harvested from late summer to autumn, roughly August to November, and new-season stock reaches Malaysia some weeks after that. Ask a seller when their batch arrived if it matters to you.

Grades, weights and the price per kilo

Labels like A, AA, AAA or Jumbo are each importer's own size sorting. There is no international standard behind them, so one seller's AAA may not match another's. Compare two listings on net weight and price per kilo, not on the grade label. To get the price per kilo, divide the pack price by the pack weight in kilograms.

For larger quantities, this site's About page, written in Malay, says it prices for both retail and wholesale buyers. There is also an older post here on wholesale buying in general terms, linked as Dates Wholesaler Malaysia.

Medjool dates

Adding another variety to the same order

A mixed order is easier to judge once you know what each date should be. Medjool dates are large and very soft, with a rich caramel taste, and the variety first came from Morocco. Deglet Noor is golden, translucent and semi-dry, and it comes from Tunisia and Algeria. In Malaysia it is sometimes sold on the stem as kurma tangkai. The stem tells you nothing about Madinah.

What to put in a WhatsApp message to the seller

The contact page says the web form is unavailable for now and asks buyers to message on WhatsApp at +60 17-312 2220. The About page lists customer service over WhatsApp and delivery across Malaysia, and invites messages asking for a quote.

Write the variety, the weight, rutab or tamr, and your postcode in the first message. If the reply leaves out the country of origin, ask for it.

Timing is worth planning around. Demand peaks before and during Ramadan, and Hari Raya, wedding hantaran, kenduri and umrah gifts bring other peaks. Sending your message a few weeks before one of those dates gives you time to compare quotes and settle on a variety without rushing.

When the parcel arrives, check the variety and net weight against the quote. If they do not match, raise it with the seller on the same WhatsApp thread, so the order and the complaint are in one place.
